Hello, I'm Emma. Not sure if live-in care is right for your family? This quick check takes about two minutes. Answer six simple questions, and we'll tell you honestly whether live-in care is likely to suit, or whether something else might be better. No obligation, and if you'd like to talk it through, we're here to help.
Questions families ask
Is live-in care right for someone with dementia?
Often, yes. Staying in familiar surroundings, with one familiar carer and the same routines, can reduce confusion and distress. Live-in care works well for many people with dementia, as long as nights are manageable for one carer, who needs to sleep. If someone is up often during the night, we will talk honestly about extra night support or other options.
What if only a few hours of help are needed?
Then hourly visits from a home care agency may suit better and cost less. We only provide live-in care, and we will always tell you honestly if a few visits a day would be enough. Many families move to live-in care later, when visits are no longer enough or when nights become a worry.
Does the carer need their own room?
Yes. A live-in carer needs a private bedroom, somewhere to rest during their breaks, and access to the kitchen and bathroom. It does not need to be large, but it must be a proper bedroom with a bed, storage and a door. If you do not have one yet, we can talk through options on a call.
Can a live-in carer give nursing care?
No. Our carers are not nurses. They can help with personal care, mobility, prompting medicines and everyday life, but clinical tasks such as injections, catheter or wound care are carried out by district nurses or other health professionals, who can visit alongside the live-in carer. Medicare People currently provides introductory live-in care services. We have submitted our application to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and intend to introduce a fully managed live-in care service following registration.
