Live-in carer jobs in Kent: questions
What do live-in care jobs in Kent pay?
Live-in care placements in Kent typically pay £950–£1,200 a week, depending on the support needed, with more for dementia care, complex needs or caring for a couple. Every placement shows its weekly rate before you accept, and you keep your own room and food is provided by the household. As an introduced, self-employed carer you agree the arrangement with the family and are paid for each placement.
How long are placements?
Most placements run for two to six weeks at a time, followed by a break at home, and many carers work a regular rota with the same family, for example two weeks on and two weeks off. Some families need short respite stays or care after a hospital discharge, and others want long-term support. You choose the placements and rotas that suit you, and we try to keep you with families you work well with.
Do I get time off each day?
Yes. Every placement includes a daily break of at least two hours, usually while the person you support rests or a family member is around, and you have your own private room. Live-in care is not about working around the clock: you sleep at night, and if someone needs regular help through the night, we discuss extra support with the family. We help families plan your breaks before you start.
Who supports me during a placement?
Our team stays in touch throughout every placement, and you can call us whenever you need advice, whether it is about a change in the person's needs, a difficult day or something practical in the home. We hand over the key details before you start, including routines, likes and dislikes, and contacts for the GP and family. If a placement isn't working out, we will help find a solution or a different family.
Do live-in carers need to be nurses?
No. Live-in carers are experienced care workers, not nurses. You help with personal care, medication prompts, meals, the home, getting out and about, and company. Clinical tasks, such as injections and wound care, stay with district nurses and the GP. We look for at least six months of care experience, ideally including live-in or domiciliary work, plus the right to work in the UK, references and a DBS check.
Can I drive during placements?
Many families value a carer who drives, for shopping, appointments and days out, and some placements in rural areas need it. Driving is not essential for every placement. If you drive, tell us when you register and make sure your insurance covers business use if you will use your own car; some families prefer you to drive theirs, in which case they arrange insurance. Each placement shows whether driving is needed.
