Introductory Live-In Care
With Medicare People's introductory live-in care service, we connect you with a self-employed carer who works independently in your home, ensuring a personalised care experience. Through our thorough recruitment process, we carefully match and introduce carers who have undergone essential checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and verification of their Right-to-Work in the UK.
As this is an introductory care service, Medicare People does not supervise, direct, or manage the carers we introduce. They work autonomously, providing support tailored to your needs, and are paid directly by you.
Why choose introductory live-in care?
Moving into a care home can feel like a big upheaval, changing the way you live and the things you hold dear. But with live-in care, life doesn’t have to change, you stay in the comfort of your own home, receiving dedicated, one-to-one support from a carer who truly understands your needs.
Live-in care allows you or your loved one to remain connected to what matters most, your spouse, family, pets, and the familiar surroundings of home. There’s no need to adjust to set visiting hours or fixed meal times. Instead, you continue living life on your terms, making choices that suit you while enjoying the companionship of a carefully chosen live-in carer.
At Medicare People, we know that trust and consistency make all the difference. That’s why we carefully match you with a small, dedicated rota of carers, helping you build meaningful relationships with the people who support you, rather than being cared for by a large team of unfamiliar faces. It’s care with heart, right at home.
Who is introductory live-in care suitable for?
introductory live-in care can be a great option for families who want full control over their loved one's care while managing the arrangement themselves. It offers flexibility and choice, but it’s not the right fit for everyone.
For those living with complex conditions or significant healthcare needs, we recommend a fully managed service instead. Since introduced care isn’t overseen by Medicare People, it may not provide the level of support required for more intricate care needs.
While our carers are trained in medication assistance and can provide prompting and supervision, introduced care does not include direct oversight of medication management. If a structured, professionally managed approach is needed, our managed service is the ideal choice to ensure safety, reliability, and peace of mind.
Why choose Medicare People for introductory live-in care?

-
Our live-in carers are highly trained to provide personal care, companionship and support with daily living. However, there are certain tasks that fall outside the scope of their role.
Carers cannot perform medical procedures, such as administering injections, dressing wounds or managing complex medical equipment. If nursing care is required, our expert live-in nursing service is available to provide professional support for those with clinical needs.
Additionally, carers cannot undertake tasks that require specialist equipment, such as heavy lifting or manual handling beyond their training. Our priority is ensuring safe, effective care that meets your needs while maintaining the highest standards of support.
-
Live-in care is perfect for those who need ongoing support due to age, illness, disability or recovery from surgery, allowing them to receive care without leaving the comfort of their home.
It is also an excellent option for couples who wish to stay together while receiving personalised care, as well as for individuals who prefer the familiarity and independence of home rather than moving into residential care.
At Medicare People, we ensure that our live-in care service provides not only essential support but also the reassurance of staying in a place filled with memories, surrounded by the things and people that matter most.
-
Yes, we offer short-term live-in care, designed to provide support when it’s needed most. Whether it’s respite care to give a family carer a well-earned break or assistance following surgery to aid rehabilitation and recovery, our service ensures continuity of care in the comfort of home.
Short-term respite care also offers families the chance to experience live-in care for the first time, helping them decide whether it’s the right long-term solution. At Medicare People, we provide expert, compassionate care, ensuring peace of mind for both individuals and their loved ones.
-
Absolutely. One of the wonderful advantages of live-in care, compared to moving into a residential setting, is that you can stay with your cherished pet, keeping that special bond intact.
When planning your care and selecting the right carer, we take your pet into account, ensuring a match that suits both of you. Many carers are happy to assist with pet care, whether it’s feeding, walking or simply providing companionship, so you and your pet can continue enjoying life together in the comfort of home.
-
To ensure your carer has a suitable living arrangement, you will need to provide a private bedroom with basic amenities, including a bed and storage for their belongings. They will also need access to a bathroom, though it doesn’t have to be a dedicated one.
Carers require access to WiFi to complete administrative tasks efficiently. Meals and a food allowance should be agreed upon between you and the carer. Many of our carers enjoy cooking and sharing meals with their clients, fostering a warm and supportive environment in the home.
-
our live-in carer is expected to sleep during the night, ensuring they are well-rested and able to provide high-quality care throughout the day. However, we understand that occasional night-time assistance may be required, and your carer will respond as needed.
To maintain the carer's wellbeing and ability to perform their role effectively, your dedicated Care Consultant will monitor the frequency of night calls. If you require more consistent support during the night, a second carer can be arranged to provide a waking night package, ensuring uninterrupted care and peace of mind.
-
At Medicare People, we offer two distinct live-in care options, each providing different levels of oversight and support.
Introductory Live-In Care
Our introductory service connects you with a self-employed carer, carefully matched to your needs. While we provide initial support, the ongoing oversight and management of care are handled by a nominated family member or representative. This option offers greater flexibility for families who wish to take an active role in care management.Fully Managed Live-In Care
Our fully managed service ensures comprehensive, professional care, overseen by a dedicated Care Consultant local to you. They provide ongoing guidance, management and support for clients, their families and our care team. With 24/7 emergency assistance available, this service offers complete peace of mind. It is regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England, ensuring the highest standards of care. We are proud to be rated a ‘Good’ service by the CQC.Whatever your needs, Medicare People is here to help you choose the right care arrangement, ensuring comfort, security and independence in the place you call home.
-
If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with your carer, we will act swiftly to address your concerns and arrange an alternative carer who better suits your needs. Our priority is maintaining continuity of care, ensuring a smooth transition while we facilitate the change. Your comfort and peace of mind always come first.
-
Our carers are fully trained to handle emergencies, ensuring swift action to keep you safe. They will contact emergency services, notify family members and follow agreed protocols to provide the necessary support.
If you are using our introductory live-in care service, your appointed family member or representative will be contacted in an emergency, as ongoing care management is handled independently.

-
The type of care you need depends entirely on your individual health and support requirements. If you require assistance with medical procedures that a professional carer cannot provide, such as injections, PEG feeds or tracheostomy care, then our live-in nursing service would be the most suitable option.
Our experienced Care Advisors are here to help you navigate the choices available, ensuring you or your loved one receives the right level of care and support. We’ll work with you to determine the best solution for your needs, providing expert guidance every step of the way.
-
With our introductory live-in care service, we carefully recruit and introduce a trained self-employed carer to support you at home. The weekly fee for their services is agreed directly between you and your carer. After registering for this service, we can provide a guide to help you understand the expected weekly cost of care.
While this service offers a more cost-effective alternative to fully managed care, there are additional costs to consider:
A weekly agency fee of £252, invoiced directly to you. This covers carer recruitment, selection, specialist training, ongoing development and emergency out-of-hours support.
You will need to cover your carer’s travel costs from their home to yours and back again.
A one-off registration fee of £250 is payable when joining the service.
We ensure that every carer introduced to you meets our high standards, so you can feel confident in receiving professional, compassionate care in the comfort of your home.
-
Depending on your financial and health circumstances, there may be financial support available to help cover the cost of live-in care. This can include local authority funding or NHS Continuing Healthcare funding, provided by your Integrated Care Board (ICB), formerly known as a Clinical Commissioning Group.
Many families find themselves needing to self-fund live-in care, but there are several options to explore, including Care Fees insurance policies and equity release schemes, which can offer financial support.
At Medicare People, we understand that navigating care funding can be overwhelming, and we are here to help. Our team can provide guidance on the available options, ensuring you make the right choice for yourself or your loved one.
-
Our live-in care service is designed to adapt to your changing needs, ensuring you receive the right level of support at all times. Your dedicated Care Consultant will regularly review your care plan, working closely with our care team, your family and any healthcare professionals involved to ensure it continues to meet your requirements.
If your health needs evolve and require a higher level of care beyond what a professional carer can provide, we offer expert live-in nursing services. This allows for a seamless transition to enhanced clinical support, ensuring your comfort, safety and wellbeing without disruption to your care.
-
Live-in care can usually be set up within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the complexity of an individual’s needs. We work swiftly to ensure a smooth and efficient process, carefully matching the right carer while ensuring all essential arrangements are in place.
At Medicare People, we understand that timing is crucial, and we are committed to providing the support you need as quickly as possible, without compromising on quality or personalisation.
-

If you opt for our introductory service, we discuss your care and support needs as part of our registration process. We then match you with a suitable self-employed carer, introducing them to you so they can provide the care you require.
If you choose our managed care service, a dedicated Care Consultant local to you will visit your home to carry out a comprehensive assessment, ensuring every aspect of your care plan is tailored to you. Your family is welcome to be part of this process. Once you decide to proceed, we carefully match you with the most suitable carer. After all contractual paperwork is completed, we agree on a service start date, ensuring a seamless transition into care.
At Medicare People, we are committed to making the process simple and reassuring, ensuring you receive the right care with a smooth and supportive experience.
